This phone service allows U.S. air travelers to get flight status for 141 domestic and international airlines – covering all 432 U.S. commercial airports and 173 international airports. Is it really free?

Yes. Our service is free, but you may get charged minutes, depending on your cell phone plan.

How does it work?

How much information do I need to know about my flight?

If you know the flight number, your data retrieval will be faster. Without the specific flight number, you will be prompted through an additional step. Once you have provided the approximate arrival or departure time and city, you will be asked to select your flight from a list of possible choices before your data can be retrieved.

How long will it take to retrieve my requested data?

Most calls last an average of 1-1 ½ minutes.

How often is flight information updated?

The flight status data is continuously updated. Our provider combines the most up-to-the-minute information from multiple sources including airports, airlines and the FAA.

Why do I hear an advertisement while I’m waiting for my flight information?

The sponsor messages allow us to provide flight status information at no cost to you.

How to speed up your 1.800.Flights call:

Speak clearly and deliberately -- The system is designed to allow you two attempts to state your information. If the system still cannot determine your request, the original prompt will be broken down into separate pieces.

Say your flight number and airline for fastest service -- The more specific the information you provide, the faster the system can distinguish the flight information requested.

Second fastest route to flight status -- say the airline and departure and arrival cities.
The system will prompt you for additional information.

Know your destination -- Provide the city and state whenever possible – especially if multiple states have the same city name (ie Portland, Maine). It is easier for the system to differentiate and understand, plus you will avoid further prompts and speed up the call.

Use complete phrases -- Do not abbreviate airlines, airports, cities, etc.
For example:

Don’t know the airline and flight number? Say the departure and arrival city, plus approximate scheduled departure time. -- If you don’t know the scheduled departure time, the system will prompt you for the scheduled arrival time. Follow additional prompts to receive your information.

Don’t know you’re flight number? We’ll help! -- When you do not have the specific flight number, provide the city and airport name – especially when requesting a city with multiple airports. For instance, Chicago O’Hare or Dallas Love Field, rather than Chicago or Dallas. This will save you from receiving additional system prompts.

It’s OK to interrupt -- To speed things along, the system will allow you to interrupt at some points of the call, but will not permit you to bypass at other points.

You may interrupt:

• When the system asks for information including airline,
  flight number or departure and arrival cities
  
• To state the information you do know to speed up your call
  rather than listening to the instructions
  
• When selecting from a list of possible flights

You may not interrupt:

• While the sponsor message is being played
  
• When flight information is being delivered
